1 MEANING

The student's message should be clear.

2 OPENING A CONVERSATION

The student is able to open a conversation and shows good knowledge of appropriate phrases and expression.

3 MAINTAINING A CONVERSATION

When changes in topic or direction of the conversation occur, the student is able to react quickly and appropriately. The student's hesitations should be for organising thoughts rather than searching for words.

4 ACCURACY

Language errors will not be very frequent. The listener should be able to understand and should not need to help.

5 VOCABULARY

The student's range of vocabulary should be adequate for the expression of ideas and opinions on most common topics.

6 PRONUNCIATION

The student's range pronunciation should be clear. The student should show reasonable control of sounds, stress and intonation. There should be effective communication with the listener.
