Skills and Training
Develop the knowledge and skills you need to work in the growing international equine industry, specialising in the different aspects of equine health, husbandry and rehabilitation.
There’s a strong practical element to the course and you’ll train in our large, modern equine centre, as well as on work placements.
In particular there’ll be the opportunity to learn and practice the latest techniques used by the equine industry, including reproduction through artificial insemination and embryo transfer and equine training techniques.
As part of this you’ll visit various equine establishments and train on the advanced facilities at our equine centre, including an aqua treadmill, equine spa, solarium and equine gait analysis video system.
Turning to the academic modules you’ll cover various scientific topics such as animal behavior and welfare, equine health, equine management and therapy, biomechanics, nutrition, training, physiology, and injury and disease. These lectures are held at the College of West Anglia and Anglia Ruskin University campuses - and you’ll have student privileges at both.
By the time you graduate you’ll be a confident, knowledgeable equine handler with a sound knowledge of management, health and husbandry techniques, and the ability to work as part of a professional equine team.
Additionally you’ll be well-prepared for further study. You can top-up your foundation qualification to an honours degree with further study and head on to postgraduate research if that interests you.
