1 MEANING

2 OPENING A CONVERSATION

The students should be able to open a conversation and show a reasonable knowledge of appropriate phrases.

3 MAINTAINING A CONVERSATION

When changes in topic or direction of the conversation occur, the student should be able to react appropriately. However, the student may need a little time to do this. If the student hesitates while searching for language, this should cause few problems for the listener, and should not lead to a feeling of impatience.

4 ACCURACY

When language errors occur, the student should be able to clarify any confusion. The listener may sometimes have to help.

5 VOCABULARY

The student's range of vocabulary, though limited, will be sufficient for most everyday situations, but the listener may sometimes need to help.

6 PRONUNCIATION

The student's pronunciation should be generally clear. The student should show some control of sounds, stress and intonation. There should be generally clear communication with the listener.
